Summer Spotlights

It’s time for summer spotlights! We do one of these for each member and they’re posted weekly throughout the summer. These consist of a (horizontal) video of you singing and a paragraph about you. Some things you can put in your paragraph are:

  • Hometown
  • Graduation year
  • Major
  • Minor, if any
  • Position(s) in beauties (officer, choreographer, arranger, etc)
  • Voice part
  • Summer plans
  • Fall plans
  • Your song title and artist

Try not to make it too long, but feel free to brag about yourself and show off how awesome you are! You don’t have to put all that information in there, but feel free to.

Paragraphs and videos should be emailed to the beauties email. Let Shel or Stephanie know if you have any questions!

Competition Set 2019-2020

Thank you to everyone that came to the music meetings before finals started! Our theme for next year will be darkness and light. Here’s the plan for the set:

  1. “What a wonderful world” – Louis Armstrong will be our intro. It will be a cool chordy beautiful arrangement that might almost sound barbershop (we’ll see) but it abruptly turns to minor key on the last “what a wonderful world” and transitions straight into the beginning of
  2. Florence and the Machine’s “Breath of Life.” This will be mashed up with a few Billie Eilish songs – “Bad Guy,” “bury a friend” and possibly more. It will have some cool choral music in latin embedded it, both from “Breath of Life” and other songs.
  3. “Good in Me” – Jon Bellion
  4. The main bop of the set will be a mashup of “Hold my Hand” – Lukas Graham, and “Pray” – Sam Smith (but the majority of the song will be “Hold my Hand”). This piece will bring in motifs from all the other songs at the end in a major climax that is the height of the entire set!
  5. The set will end on the same song it began with, “What a Wonderful World,” but in a minor key that switches to major at the very end.

The outfits will consist of everyone wearing either fully white or fully black clothes, and who wears white vs. black will depend on solos and choreography, so no need to worry about getting your outfit just yet. As of right now, there are looking to be about 7-8 opportunities for solos and even more opportunities for unique parts or technical solos! Please contact Shel if you have any interest in arranging or have ideas about this set. We want to make it very collaborative and get input from from everyone!
